In Response To: Cortana lying to Foe Hammer (Mark Simmons) Hi, my first post. I was just wondering about something... im not sure if it's been posted before but here goes. Has anyone ever noticed how if you play Silent Cartographer in say... easy or normal and you have a lot of marines alive by the end of it. If you go back to where you left the marines instead of getting inside foehammer... all the marines are dead with no apparent signs of conflict, no blood, no bullet holes, no plasma scorch's simply a lot of dead bodies with a lot of grenades and guns lying around. ok so heres my theory, i tried to post it on the halo story page but it never got put up. I think that there is another "Thing" on the Halo it could be alien, an AI or even something tottaly new, I think the whole time that MC and Cortana were running around it has been running also. The thing is possibly the cuase for the Floods initial release! does anyone remember GS343 stating that he beleives the "Other" race on the ring is to blame for the floods release. so maybe, just maybe this thing was both the cuase for the deaths of those marines and it's the escaping convict. I think, that it was something the Covies had found in or around the ring (cos they looked as though they had been there for quite a while before the UNSC showed up)and they had it imprisoned for killing some of their guys. Also as to the change in cortanas appearance, this could have nothing to do with her being possibly infected by this new creature (Which is possible some kind of mutating alien virus, eg it can be either physical or digital)maybe her appearance changed becuase she no longer trusts MC to do what she says. or maybe even she is just a little cranky from her time within the core. But I'm pretty sure it's probably becase of the possibility that while in the core the thing not only infected her but also took over, maybe the thing cant control her appearance, only her voice, so maybe the angry look and evil eyes is merely a product of Cortana Raging inside her own head. And that would explain the lying also, obvicously this thing doesnt want survivors, they make things difficult. The second betrayal in Two Betrayals could actually be Cortana being forced to betray MC. And that whole thing with destorying the generators... do we know for sure that they were generators? if so then its possible that these were generating some kind of force feild that stopped Mr. Thing from escaping Halo. the last thing i've noticed is that after The Library Cortana randomly insults MC, she calls him a "Barbarian" a few times and i seem to recall something else as well. So as for Cortana being the convict... possibly but only becuase shes under the control of something far more sinister. it is also possible that before she was inside the Core she was a normal AI but after being infected her time in her prison mind has turned her rampant. so maybe in Halo 2 the thing will leave her and go off to do its own thing, maybe it wont be back till Halo 3 but by that time Cortana has gone comepletely nuts and starts killing people. In Halo 2 I think that Cortana will do something really, really i mean devastatingly bad and will be destroyed post-hast, but the thing she does could have something to do with GS343, he will turn up also in the next game. Possibly he is imprisoned by Human forces and she lets him go and he tells the covies about Earth.
