In Response To: Re: The worst example is Floodgate (elpolloguapo) : But the thing is, Bungie may not be 'all about money' (and I don't think it : is), but their primary concern as a business has to be profit. And to do : so, they must be able to market a game to as large a demographic of people : as is possible, so they took the Halo 3 campaign a step down from Halo : 2's. I think the most telling evidence of this is that there were vastly : mroe cinematics in Halo 2 as in Halo 3. I realize many people didn't like : that, including a many people here, but those are really the biggest : evidence of a plot-driven game, and the fact that there are less of them : and more blowing aliens up with BFGs helps to demonstrate that Halo 3 was : less about the plot. I think you're 100% wrong here. I think Halo 3's campaign is a step UP from Halo 2's - it's more flexible, and it incorporates more of the storyline in a mode that I can PARTICIPATE in, instead of making me watch 2 hours of cutscenes. : An equally valid reason for that, though, which I think was just as much a
This, again, is WAY off the mark. Halo 3 is far, far, FAR more polished, in almost every sense of the word, than Halo 2 was. They made sure they stuck to a schedule that allowed them to put a fine sheen on everything AFTER they were content complete, rather than leaving some relatively ugly rough edges like Halo 2 did. I will agree that there is more plot exposition in Halo 2 than in Halo 3... but I'll argue that this HURT the game, in the long run. The story they tried to tell in Halo 2 was too big for the game they put it into. Halo 3 might have gone a bit too far the other way (as Narcogen's made clear in many posts, the real meat of Halo 3's story doesn't actually get underway until more than half the game is past), but the end result is more comfortable; you're not left feeling like someone tried to shove a size 16 story into a size 2 dress.
