In Response To: That's not really all that important... (stan) : The first thing you see in Star Wars is an Imperial battlecruiser ship thing : blasting away at a rebel ship thing. You don't know why, you just : understand that there's a war on and that certain characters are fighting : for one side and other characters are fighting for the other (in fact, I : STILL don't know why there's a war on and I've seen all the movies and : most of the clone wars animated series). I suppose it depends on what you mean by Star Wars. If you mean Episode 4, then you're right: you aren't necessarily told who is fighting or why, but what you need to know is made apparent visually. If you mean Episode 3, then you don't really know who is fighting who, or why, and two and a half hours of computer animation isn't enough to make any sane person care. If you want to talk failure to be subtle AND failure to get the story across...
