In Response To: Re: Criticism of Bungie storytelling (reprobate) : Yeah, that's true. It also mentions in reference material like on the back of : the box that the Chief is the final Spartan, but I guess what I was trying : to get at is it isn't as streamlined as it could be. Maybe they could've : had marines mumbling something about why he's alone, or wondering aloud : why the Covenant are so viciously attacking humanity. No, no, NO. Characters should never talk between themselves solely for the purpose of revealing something to the audience. They have to have their own reasons for doing so. The war has been going on for decades-- it's far past the point of one marine muttering to another about "why the Covenant attack". It'd be like wondering why rain is wet-- it's been true for so long that there's no need to talk about it. Heck, there are probably marines on the PoA who were born after the war started. They've never known a time when humanity was not at war with the Covenant. This is the kind of writing flaw that plagues a lot of other games, especially shooters. It's what sets Bungie apart, and what (ironically) gets them criticized unfairly for having a "bad story"-- because things are not simplified, repeated, and plastered out on the walls for everyone to see. : I love the story, just the average multiplayer 13 year old that hates reading
Good thing there's multiplayer for them, then. I wouldn't want the campaign changed to suit that audience, though.
