Wait... how is it any LESS telepathy when conducted over shorter distances? Gravemind speaks through pureforms to you in the control room on the Ark before you ever see him. He is not physically connected to those pureforms. So Gravemind's consciousness taking action and being present at a distance is already well established. Why should the distance involved matter... at all?
