: What problems did you actually have? I think my question is "why is subtle storytelling good storytelling?" I think that neither subtle nor obvious are inherently good because I've seen both that are great. But my problem with Halo 3 was that I never knew what was going on exactly. This was present to a degree in Halo 1, but there was always the underlying goal of survival and escape from the ring. So I had the feeling that I was always trying to achieve that goal, so the subtlety worked. Whereas in Halo 3, Earth did not seem to be in immediate danger (at least that is the sense I got from playing the first time) and I get to travel to so many places that I'm not even sure what all I'm doing.
