In Response To: Re: The worst example is Floodgate (elpolloguapo) : The problem is that there would be no way short of telepathy for the two GMs : to be a collective intelligence, so if they're thousands of light-years : apart. Hence the reference to the Borg who communicate regardless of distance. It's possible that only the higher forms collectively communicate in some fashion. Though their methods are violent, all the forms share the same utopian motivation. Not 'Join us or die!' but 'Join us', as the infection forms latch on to the living and the dead alike. They operate not in competition with other beings but use them as a stepping stone to a higher form. As the rings are designed to eradicate all sentient life, it's inferred that the IFs are not. It seems reasonable to assume GMs are only created as more sentient beings are consumed. In the Halo novel The Flood, both Captain Keyes and Private Jenkins remained conscious during their time as hosts, though the nature of the Flood life cycle shows that this will not last. It was also revealed that their memories are invaded during this time, but if the IFs are not sentient then who or what is doing that? Do they become sentient after? As Cortana is a product of a copy of a single human brain, would it be the same with a GM on a larger scale? Does the IF copy the host brain and then is somehow able to transmit this pattern to a single location where the GM builds a single massive neural net, rather then simply collect brain matter into a pile?
