In Response To: Re: Criticism of Bungie storytelling (reprobate) : the Covenant reverted to civil war anyway due to their bidding. So : what's the deal? The only answer that I've seen that sounds reasonable is : that the Hierarchs wanted to make sure that they kept all the power for : themselves that goes with being the leaders of the Covenant. Why did the Hierarchs turn on the Elites? My guess from the Conversations booklet was that the Elites were starting to ask too many pertinent questions. But what is the general consesnus about this on HBO? Did Truth honestly believe that the Elites would transcend if they were not worthy? Surely they'd be left behind like we were. Did he really think that they'd hesitate to light the rings? Maybe the Heretic had more influence than we realized. Maybe the Elites on the council were asking harder questions. Maybe the two Elites in the conversations booklet were not unusual. Maybe its time for a CH style treatment of the Elite 'rebellion'. <- I'd be interested in that book. We probably should have had one a few months after h2 came out. : I don't know what the real reason for any of their actions are, but I think
How did Regret find out where Earth was? How did he find Forerunner clues to the location of a planet that the Forerunners, in general, didn't know about? ;-) Earth's 2 claims to Forerunner fame would be that it was a newly discovered planet with primative Forerunners living on it and that there was a portal to the Ark there. Maybe Regret only knew that it had a portal. <- Did he have a portal detector? He had access to a keyship, did that give him access to a lock detector? Why would he check earth or the existance of a lock/portal? But the point is that this is all just speculation on my part. I'm jumping through hoops to try to make the story make sense. There is nothing inevitable about the way the Halo story unfolds. I don't mind working to make sense of a story. <- to a degree But I do mind working to >make a story make sense. <- especially when it resists and seems to insist on NOT making sense.
