In Response To: Re: The worst example is Floodgate (elpolloguapo) : I can imagine someone at Bungie (probably some jerk from MS) saying; 'how : about cutting this out and replacing it with this, it would probably : appeal a lot more to our target demographic...' That's the problem. While I support the market economy, I've come to hate how big business has affected the entertainment industry in recent years. Everything from music to TV shows to movies are packaged and processed. The producers can only think in terms of focus groups and target demographics and Neilsen statistics, not in terms of creativity or artistic integrity. Why do you think reality shows are so common these days? They're cheap to produce and caters to the LCD. There's no real risk. I can guaran-damn-tee that if the industry had the same attitude back in the 70s, a show like M*A*S*H wouldn't have made it. It's first season ratings would've doomed it. They don't give shows a chance anymore. Likewise, in the movie industry, big-budget films are increasingly based off of a preexisting IP, usually a popular novel or comic or a previous popular movie. How many good ideas have been stifled because some suit didn't think it'd be profitable enough? As the video game industry gets bigger and bigger, I dread that it'll become more like the rest of the entertainment industry.
