In Response To: Re: Jumps. (Greatest Journey) : "Forerunner Tank...awsomeness would ensue" GO PODCASTS! :D : Seriously, though, maybe they realized at some point they weren't going to be
You know, I keep hearing stuff like this and I have to call BS. I don't believe for one second that the novels or the comics exist to "fill holes" in the existing plot. Or that holes in the existing plot are created, or allowed to exist, in order to create a market for ancillary materials. Bungie's approach is to flesh out a detailed backstory and then put ONLY as much of that backstory into the games as is absolutely, positively required to explicate the immediate events. The ancillary materials exist because they have that material, it doesn't fit into the games, but if people want to consume it then it can be made available to them in another form. I can guarantee you-- if, for whatever reason, publishing books and comics were not an option for Bungie, the games would still be the same. Stuff is left out of the games because it has to be. Their inclusion in other works is entirely secondary and opportunistic. If it is left out of the games and inserted into another work, it is either 1) something you could have figured out from clues given, or 2) not really that important.
