The thing is, though, that's a perfectly valid explanation, but that's just one Halo. There's still five left, and nobody even knows where the hell they are, and there's no obvious way to find them without the Ark or 343. Bungie has said forever and a day that they want it so you don't have to read the books to understand the games, but in this case you kind of do. The line on Floodgate is so nebulously worded and so difficult to hear on higher difficulties that plenty of people can't have heard it until they played through the level again. Besides, it's pretty much bullshit. "THE FLOOD, IT HAS EVOLVED!!!" Well what the flying fuck did it do? Is he talking about Pure Forms? If so, how does that work? They can't infect *anything*, unlike Combat Forms or Carriers, and I have no idea how one of them, or even hundreds of them, could overwhelm a massive fleet full of Elites. Elites have *energy swords*. Even on Legendary, one hit and that Tank Form is history. The only way I can possibly think of that the Pure Forms could have anything to do with running the Elite blockade is maybe being used as organic projectiles, or something? They're a lot tougher physically than regular Flood, and they don't have any organs or even a need to breathe, so maybe you could just release them at the enemy ships and hope one got on board?
