In Response To: Criticism of Bungie storytelling (phatcorns) : and I don't understand why letting the player know what's going on has to : be subtle. That's not really what Bungie subtlety has been about in the past. You always knew the main thread of the story in Marathon/Myth, but some of the more intriguing points, which put the story into greater perspective, are more or less hidden. The idea was that you could dig a little deeper, and find out what was REALLY going on, but even if you didn't, you still understood everything. I'm not quite as critical of the Halo 3 story now as I was when I first finished the game, but it seems there were "essential" bits that were subtle, rather than "bonus" bits.
