First, 'no explanation' isn't = inconsistency. So scratch all your unanswered questions - those are mysteries, which ideally, would lead people to look more into the Halo franchise than -just- the games. My point was on inconsistencies, internal consistency, contradictions and such.

The helmet date is a good example of a video game inconsistency, and you even made the attempt to reconcile it :) (using the same argument I would, even though it was taken from novels, not video game content)
Strictly video game wise - it's an inconsistency, but it's one reconciled in external canon.

It's safe to say that the Halo franchise is not just about video game content. They want fans to absorb other media, other resources. And so it comes back to:
