In Response To: What I've learned from all this... (Gravemind) : ... is that the Halo Story Bible is apparently just a few Post-it notes on : the fridge in Bungie Studio's break room. Maybe there was a Story Bible, : but someone lost it around 2006. The shoddy writing in Halo 3 and the : inconsistencies and retcons found in ODST and Reach have been major : disappointments in what is still one of the most well-developed sci-fi : franchises around. It's almost like Bungie is trying to pull a George : Lucas on us. >:( For real... That idea of a story bible always let us have faith in their decisions... But some of this bunk is just irreconcilable. Cortana and the Chief had no idea what the forerunner was on Halo... Now Cortana is just throwin' us for a loop? Gross. It really feels like they don't care about this kind of thing. Writing to avoid issues like these are avoidable if you know your way around the fictional universe. If fans can do it, why can't Bungie?
