(SoundEffect)) : I also read the 3 original novels after I'd played Halo 1, around the time I : played Halo 2, and I still see the 'official' novels as canonical as the : games. Yes, some things don't mesh, but it was FAR less back then than we : have now. No no, I read the novels quite a long time after I played Halo 2. A year and a half, and almost 4 years after I played Halo 1. So not only did some things not just mesh, some things seemed totally wrong even then. And I don't mean techno babble or Forerunner time warping crystals. I had known the game version of MC for 4 years with his dry sense of humour, one liners and apparent compassion for other Marines. And the MC I read about in FoR and FS just didn't seem to match up at all. When something as fundamental as the main character didn't seem to be right in those novels compared to what I had known in the games for so long, I was just never going to embrace them fully or trust them.
