In Response To: I think we hold the books in too high a regard. (Riceatron)

If your story doesn't match what came before, how are we supposed to be able to invest emotionally in it's characters or care about what happens?
Example:
We all read about those Super MACs and their generators. Imagine how you'd feel watching them beat the shit out of ship after squidface ship, only to fall to some "mere" infantry. Even if it were just a cutscene or radio chatter, wouldn't that have given a whole new level of depth to the game instead of just "Oh hey the Covenant are on Reach?" We've known about those guns and their story for a decade, read and reread what happened with them. They were almost as much a character as Reach itself. And now they don't exist? Supercarriers can just "cloak" into the atmosphere and Corvettes can just hang out wherever?
