| Halo's just gotten too big for its britches | |

In Response To: I think we hold the books in too high a regard. (Riceatron) Bry made a good point about what a big Sci-Fi universe Halo has become. Initially, it was very easy to fit two games and a few books (probably up until GoO) together smoothly because that was literally all that had been released. The more elements that were added to each release after, the more discrepancies started to show up, especially when events and time periods that have already been touched upon are revisited. Video games tend to compound these all the more because the line between gameplay and story is always very blurry. I think for quite a while each author and creator made a whole-hearted effort to stay true to everything that came before them without sacrificing their own story's goals. At a certain point though, when someone is presented with a few dozen problems they'll have to retcon before they can get on with their job, they tend to say "Screw it, I've got a lot of work to do." I think we all knew what was coming as soon as Halo Reach was announced and we saw those silhouettes of the gundams - er, Spartan III's - in the trailer. Sad and frustrating, but not surprising in the least.
