For all its detail in a universe and how well : thought out it is, incorporating significant player choices and their : effect on that universe means every Mass Effect game is, in essence, fan : fiction. : However, there are novels and they cannot adhere to ever players game, thus : there is a 'definitive' canon portrayed in the novels, where Anderson is : not a member of the council etc. : By comparison, Halo has it easy when it comes to fans wanting to talk about : the universe! : But with Halo, of course there wasn't proper care exercised at the beginning. : No one knew it would be so successful, spawn best selling novels, comics : etc. : It could just as easily have been a massive flop. : Just the cards we are dealt with. : Its perhaps optimistic to hope that Halo would have really been better : planned out than Star Wars, especially with video game development being : what it is. The saddest part is after the success was apparent, they could have easily tried to minimize the errors and still did little in that regard. The Reach game compounds the problem exponentially. I like Bungie and their games, but I'd fear that if they did another one things would still get worse, not better. Enjoy your new IP Bungie! I'll wait and see what 343i can do with all of this.
