But that's what I mean - what conflicts are there, in ONLY game content, between each game? As far as I understand it, everything's consistent - not necessarily with other external content/canon, but internally, anyone not exposed to any story content except the games, I believe, should really be confused.
Like, without any knowledge of AIs being split up, Halo 1 starts with the Chief and Cortana on the PoA apeparing from the midst of battle at the Halo, randomly.
Reach leaves off with Cortana being taken to the PoA with coordinates for an important location, leaving Reach in the midst of battle. That seems consistent for me. Most gamers, especially those not interested in anything more than video game canon, wouldn't catch any tiny, minor inconsistencies anyway, because they're obviously not that interested in it.

IMO, the moment a player shows 'confusion' about a story, that person is likely more interested in it than just video game canon. But that's just MHO :)
