All of these events that happened could have : occurred with some simple changes. The SIIIs being SIIs, the PoA being up : in orbit and meeting it up there, a few time frame adjustments. Mission : structure could still be very much the same aside from the last mission. : The truth of the matter is that Bungie simply didn't care . These glaring : omissions attest to that; and that is what's so sad. It's very difficult : to stomach as a fan, and disappointing when you've spent the last 10 years : enjoying this universe. : Many of us feel cheated. Unless you weren't particularly fond of the early novels to begin with. And there are fans that feel that way.That don't consider FoR to be the definition of awesomeness ensuing. Even if they do tend to be more quiet than the ones that adore them, if for no other reason than not being utterly in love with them can be seen as a cardinal sin. Or to say that you preferred The Flood over Fall of Reach and First Strike. That's almost criminal amongst some of the fandom. I got into the 'hardcore' area of the fandom much later than most I imagine. About Spring 2006 where it served as some escapism from some pretty crappy times. And 2010 has found me deeply back into more crappy times, but nevermind that. So I was quite familiar with both Halo and Halo 2 before reading the novels, rather than having read FoR back in 2001/2. For that reason, it didn't have the same impact on me, nor was it ever in a position to try and define what the Halo Universe was meant to be. For example, reading FoR for the first time, I came to the bit about how human ships needed rotating sections to generate gravity and immediately thought "What the Hell? That's nothing like Halo CE or Halo 2." So I never fully trusted it, and this has left me rather more keen for events in it to be altered. Heck, I hoped Bungie would take the chance with Reach to make changes and address things that didn't sit right with the novel. In a way, I suppose they did that, though not in the way I imagined. I am happier that the UNSC has been beefed up a bit. A Frigate can last for a while against a Corvette and UNSC Starfighters/bombers are more than a match for Seraphs, the new 'Space Banshees' and a credible threat to small capital ships. Perhaps the bigger problem is the indecision when Bungie say they did take great care, or when Frankie says it will all make sense. The only thing I would wish is that we would have an out right statement: Some things have changed, yes we've made some solid retcons.
