In Response To: Halo's just gotten too big for its britches (free) : Bry made a good point about what a big Sci-Fi universe Halo has become. : Initially, it was very easy to fit two games and a few books (probably up : until GoO) together smoothly because that was literally all that had been : released. The more elements that were added to each release after, the : more discrepancies started to show up, especially when events and time : periods that have already been touched upon are revisited. I'd stomach this if I believed it wasn't easy to work with the existing canon... but that's not true. All of these events that happened could have occurred with some simple changes. The SIIIs being SIIs, the PoA being up in orbit and meeting it up there, a few time frame adjustments. Mission structure could still be very much the same aside from the last mission. The truth of the matter is that Bungie simply didn't care. These glaring omissions attest to that; and that is what's so sad. It's very difficult to stomach as a fan, and disappointing when you've spent the last 10 years enjoying this universe. Many of us feel cheated. From what I understand, they built some missions that were fun, and explained them away. Whoever was in charge of explaining them away did a bad job. You know... I might have been ok with some of the massive retcons if what the existing canon has been replaced with wasn't absolutely boring. A disjointed plot, cardboard-cutout characters, and disregard for existing canon make for a very underwhelming fictional work. All the "atmosphere of a falling planet" and "scary covenant" in the world can't excuse those things.
