: The Longswords were to 'push' the Corvette clear of the Sword Base area so : the MAC could do its thing. Yup, in other words, they were what made it run. If they weren't a threat, they would have just ignored them. Also later in the game, in Exodus, the troops on the ground desperately request air support from Longswords to take out the other Corvettes, but Command say none are available.
