In Response To: Re: It's outright carelessness. (Stephen L. (SoundEffect)) : It's the change for change's sake that irks me. Why the total redesign of the : Autumn, for example? It's looked a certain way for 9 years. Why change it : so drastically only to abandon the franchise the next day? How's that : helping? They could have re-skinned the original model and saved that : development time to ensuring fewer retcons, say. Well... 9 years not being touched, a whole new generation of hardware and being a fair few software generations into that hardwares life... It was never going to be the same.
Have to admit, my first thoughts was that it looked amazing and it was nice to see Bungie being able to give the ship some real love after the limitations of the Xbox and original Halo engine. But in the back of my mind, I knew you'd be unhappy about it, especially having worked so hard on documents of the original version, and making your model. This is just what happens in games though. Sticking in the original geometry and textures from the Halo on the final screen was a nice touch in the far distance where the low resolution textures were less apparent.
That's why I've said concept art or CGI renders are worth keeping in mind for these things, where there are no polygon constraints and the original vision can be laid down before being hacked back into something workable within game.
