In Response To: Re: That's stupid from a gaming standpoint *SP* (Bry) : I know, but try reading the post I was replying to, where Halsey's journal is : basically referred to as a third party source. Sorry, I did get that, I was just halfway through reading the thread and had to vent. I'm mostly just trying to remind folks that regardless of who decides to include what into the canon, the fact remains that H:CE and TFoR were developed at the same time. They both have flaws, but it's impossible to refute that they're both are the root of this fictional universe. They can't be held in high enough regard, with reference to Halo as a whole. As Halsey's Journal goes, it dovetails very nicely with all of Nylund's previous work on Halo. Not perfect, but excellently, and illumes many other facets of the universe. That said, the fact that you need to go outside of the game narrative to make sense of it is a failing. The story in game should stand alone. External sources should bolster it, not be essential to it's comprehension.
