I'm saying there MIGHT be explanations that, in hindsight, make sense without making a mockery of continuity or canon. mnemesis mentioned The Hangover. I think it's an apt example of how this might work. It's also possible that 343 simply decided to strap on boosters because they look cool. I won't know until I play the game - but I'll wait until then to be annoyed. :)
