In Response To: Oh! I see what the problem is. (Leisandir) : You didn't like the trailer. Okay, we get that. More or less. : For people who DID, there is no problem. I would say that it is more valid, as a perspective, to try and point out to people who see no problem that there may be one, than to try and point out to people who see a problem that there is none. Unless your position is that I am delusional, and thus projecting a problem onto the trailer where there is one. That doesn't seem to be what you're saying. You're acknowledging that there is an apparent problem, and dismissing it because it doesn't bother you, you choose to ignore it, and believe that it will all be resolved later in a manner you cannot describe. That is not particularly reassuring for those who did not already feel as you do; nor should it be. I don't know about anyone else, but
Would you agree, then, that a trailer could easily have been constructed without any fire, without any jetpack, and this would not have affected your impression of the trailer at all, which would be completely preserved as written above, but nearly every cause that I have for objection would have been removed? If so, what was the reason for not doing that? Given that we've already had jetpacks in Reach, was it really necessary to inject them into this trailer, in a non-gameplay situation? Is this driving purchase decisions? Not "We hate you and we're adding
What they intend and what they achieve are not always the same. I certainly don't allege that "they" hate me or anyone else, or that they are motivated by a desire to cause displeasure. That would not be sensible. Adding stuff for its own sake, though, or for the sake of changing? Very, very believable. What they are doing is discounting the possible negative reaction to that-- and they are probably completely right to do so. I would not be so ridiculous as to predict downfall, doom, and financial failure upon Halo 4 because of this or any other objection I might ever possibly have about this trailer, any other promotional materials, or indeed the game itself. I admit, without reservation, that I'm a statistical outlier within my particular area of interest, just as Stephen Loftus is within his area of interest, and Cody Miller is within his area of interest. Halo, as series, has catered to none of us, and the things we found in the series to enjoy are largely different things. It is very possible, indeed likely, that going forward the series will be different, and the things we find to enjoy may change, and for some of us, the interest may fade. That is natural.
