In Response To: Re: Interesting Frankie Quote (Narcogen) : Because we're having difficulty coming up with one that isn't? And because : similar explanations have, in the past, been ridiculous? (Boren's : Syndrome/Spartan Is, BR-55s in plastic, etc etc) Like Leisandir said, it's been less than a week. Why is it such a big deal that we haven't come up with a "good" answer yet? We have no real reason to believe that the explanation will suck. And I agree with DHalo that the Boren's thing wasn't that bad. : Starry Night was a TV spot, not a trailer, and it wasn't in-engine. Then
Which is why I mentioned it. : Because explanations matter? I'm not saying that explanations aren't important. I just don't see why everyone is assuming that the explanation will be bad. We have no real context, we know next to nothing about the game. Previous Halo trailers all indicate that the actual events in the game won't happen like they did in the trailer. But for whatever reason everyone is convinced that there will be a contrived explanation as to how the Chief gets new armor. Everyone is assuming that he will have this armor on the FUD. For all we know he could get these upgrades in the Forerunner thing. We simply don't know, which is why I don't understand why everyone is being so damn absolute about this. It's a freaking trailer. : That sort of made sense between Halo 1 and Halo 2. It makes no sense here
Like I've already said: we don't know. The game is still over a year away and we just learned about it this week. We know virtually nothing about it. The upgrades make no sense in the context of the trailer, yes, but we have no clue if they'll make sense in the context of the game. : Actually, generally speaking, Bungie went to considerable lengths to use the
I wasn't really talking about graphics, I was talking about what happens in the trailer. I didn't worry about the trailer because I knew that the events in the trailer weren't the same events we'll see in the final game because the events we've seen in past trailers have pretty much never been what we see in the final game. : Basically, very little happens in this trailer. The Chief wakes up, rescues
So, like I said, we know next to nothing. : Is it too much to ask to show that without messing with continuity? If not,
Because you can't explain very much in a minute and a half? : If you're going to try and dovetail the closing cinematic of Halo 3 with what
Again, it's a trailer. Trailers aren't always 100% accurate. Just because the trailer is one way is no guarantee that the game will be the same. The way this thread (and many others) has been going, everyone is acting like everything is set in stone, that this is how the game will be. I just feel like everyone is overreacting and jumping to conclusions. I'll agree that Cortana looked terrible. : He already has done it, and there's no explanation for the jetpack that won't
But we haven't really seen anything at all. How can you be so absolute about a game that won't be out for another year and a half based on a minute and a half long teaser trailer? : The best we can hope for is this, and if they do it, I'll salute them:
: "Master Chief: "Sorry, that's classified." : Nod to the audience, admit you're messing with us, and get on with it. That I
Like I said, you can't really say that this is the best we can hope for based off a short trailer. Unless you have some inside source at 343i feeding you plot points I really don't see how you can be so sure that no explanation will be good. : Start trying to make something you put in for gameplay, or something you put
I agree and disagree. I'm willing to allow changes if they are fun enough. Where did all the DMRs go in Halos 1-3? What about the -------------------------------------------------------------------------- My overall point that I was trying to make, which I feel has gone over some people's heads, is that we shouldn't be freaking out so much over a trailer. We have no real reason to think that this is how things will happen in the game, and we have no reason to think that whatever explanations we get will suck. We simply don't know enough about the game to make any of these calls. The negativity doesn't do anyone any good.
