I think you're taking your "games overrule all" philosophy a little too far here. Obviously the characters in the game, and the ways that they move and interact with the world and with each other, are limited by the tech of the game. In the novels a fight between an Elite and a Spartan can reflect reality, rather than being limited to predetermined animations and features (shoot, melee, grenade) as in the video games.
