In Response To: And to be honest... (DHalo) : All we're having is the same old, what is canon what is not argument, : disguised as something else. I really wish we could just drop it until : there was something substantial to actually argue as "in" or : "out" of canon rather than speculating on if anything could : POSSIBLY fit into one's definition of canon. Actually if it was only a matter of gameplay vs canon, I'd let gameplay rule and not care about the canon technical details. That was essentially the subject of my debate with Stephen Loftus about other technical details; that there's no point in cleaving to what we know or believe to be true if it doesn't substantively impact the story. I'm actually not interested one bit in the bare fact of whether the suit has jets in it or not. It's of no interest to me. I'll readily admit that it would make a lot of sense if they were there. The problem is that certain scenes derive their emotional impact in large part from their absence; and to put them in the cryotube either means they were there all along, which reduces the impact of that previous scene on the Chief's nature as a character and Cortana's relationship with him, or that somehow between the end of Halo 3 and the Halo 4 trailer somebody whipped up some jets for him. The latter is actually preferable, which is what I'm saying-- I just think it's sloppy and unnecessary because I think the goals of the trailer could have been achieved just as well-- in fact, probably much better-- without the jets or the situation that prompted their use. : And in response to "Evidence of absence" and vice versa, how many
Without jets, which is what made it awesome. Do it with jets and it's still hard, but not in the same way. Certainly not "crazy"-- and the firing of those jets would have best been left to Cortana, which would change the dynamic of the scene entirely.
