In Response To: Re: Interesting Frankie Quote (Archilen) : But the point is, they shouldn't need to rely on external explanations for : their trailer to work in the first place. The previous Halo trailers have : worked fine without someone coming and explaining why something seemed out : of place, because they did not create illogical situations which would : need an explanation. : Overall, I'm one of those people who aren't very open to explanations in
But see, let's assume we played the game tomorrow, and the explanation is altered gameplay. The game itself would serve as explanation. That isn't outside, that's the product itself, is it not? The jetpacks were not added in haphazardly or by accident. It was deliberate. Foreshadowing of some sort of change. I think the problem is that some people are not open to change, no matter how valid it could possibly be. If the reasoning does require explanation outside of the game (as in, it is explained before hand but the game couldn't have done it on its own), then there's reason to gripe. But until we play the game that this trailer is advertising, I don't think we can really bitch because we don't KNOW everything. The trailer is not a product people, it is an advertisement. If it makes you wonder, "HMM, I wonder why [insert odd thing here]," then they did their job. The main problem is that we're trying too hard to do their job for them.
