In Response To: Re: Interesting Frankie Quote (Cocopjojo) : I think you're taking your "games overrule all" philosophy a little : too far here. Well... it's my personal philosophy. I take it exactly as far as I require, and no further :) I appreciate your responding, though. Obviously the characters in the game, and the ways that they
Exactly. Each medium has its own unique nature, and that affects how conflicts are presented, especially in a game where the gameplay consists of conflict. The Halo engine isn't a brawler; it doesn't really have a way of presenting a wrestling match. However, just because it cannot do this doesn't grant the license to the novel to make a fighting scene against an Elite seem like an epic struggle when the game requires that they be quickly dispatched with a plasma pistol overcharge bolt and a few pistol or rifle shots. It's impossible to ignore the cognitive dissonance the audience is going to experience when the struggle with a single elite goes on for in-world minutes when in-game you never have that kind of time, and taking that much time to down a single enemy would spell your doom. The novel wants to play up what a huge threat Elites are; however, it cannot succeed in doing so without de-emphasizing the combat abilities of the Chief. The game wants to play up what a superman the Chief is, and his utterly ludicrous kill ratio throughout the series. It's impossible to do that without making Elites seem like much less of a threat than they do in the novels.
