All the characters interact : believably and you get a sense of who they are; it may be a mission : briefing as well, but it's not boring as hell. They're interesting characters. Probably because they're shamelessly borrowed from Firefly, and consequently for anyone who's a fan of the show they're already known and loved individuals. Think of some of the dialog they use - Adam Baldwin's metaphysical question at the end of Uplift Reserve, or Alan Tudyk's line about getting to drive the tank. Ultimately characters you care about will only carry you so far, but for me in ODST it worked. If ODST was a Firefly greatest hits compilation, then Reach was Star Trek: Voyager. You know, one of the really early Brannon Braga ones.
