: I'm sorry, but what you've come up with for the characters here isn't at all
: rooted in what we see. I touched on this in a one off line in the original
: post.

Weeell, maybe not in your opinion, but where else has he come up with it all from?
I generally got a similar sense myself as what he's described.
How? Can't really answer that. Not good at putting feelings into words in the first place, but I'd say there is subtext there, inflections in the voice and the actors did a good job in the motion capture. There is some body language things to pick up on.
Bungie also did an excellent job with the facial animation which was also motion capped. Massive improvement from Halo 3/ODST.

And it just so happens some of it actually ends up being backed up in the commentary too.

I'm not about to tell you that you are wrong, that would be crass.
But just because you didn't feel certain things, does not mean that everyone is going to share your interpretation or might not see and feel things that you didn't.

I think its a bit unfair that you are outright telling people that they couldn't have picked up any of these things from the game. That they are seeing things that aren't there.
