In Response To: Hawaiian Pig's Fantabulous Story Review *SP* (Hawaiian Pig) I agree 100%. Everything you said. Everything. Are you me? I was expecting either two things from the plot: either A) the Spartans stumble upon some Forerunner tech (like they always do) and the plot revolves around this or B) a "character" driven story, building up from what they did with ODST. But I didn't even get an equivalent to shitty ODST (as an aside, I actually love ODST, it's was my favorite campaign in terms of fun before Reach, and it did have a great atmosphere in the city). I got nothing at all. They didn't even try. The "theme" of futility that everyone keeps trying to defend it is only felt in the epilogue (which, by the way, is truly a great moment, definitely the best in the game). I never really felt like the Sparatans were aware that they're going to die, because that would completely contradict the Spartans character. They always win. Always. Up until the seventh or eighth mission, I always felt like they KNEW they were going to win. The hint at it after the Covenant fleet shows up, but, as you said, it's just more missed opportunities. The bottom line is, you could easily switch up the order of several levels and it would have no effect on the game. None. That is never, ever a good sign.
