In Response To: On Bungie and the Value of the Player's Time (Cody Miller) I detected my first hint of this new flavor of gaming when I bought Enslaved and it sat on the shelf for a week while I amassed some ridiculous number of kills or wins or whatever else. I knew it had actually worked when I dismissed said notion, thinking "Once I make General, I'll play other games more." That's funny... I seem to remember thinking "Once I get the Noble achievements banged out, I'll get back into Enslaved." Which, actually, didn't I just the other day say "Once I make Lt. Colonel, I'll have all the original 'chievos and I'll play other games more. 'Least 'till Noble." Huh - kinda reminds me of "Once I make Captain, I'll play other stuff more - Lt. Colonel will happen whenever it happens." So, it's pretty clear that player investment works on me - has me playing the game more frequently and for more time per day. Admittedly, even when I would probably have stopped, or not even started. Honestly - how many of you have turned on your 360 just to bang out a quick 400 kills in some "endless wave of grunts" Firefight game type just for the cR? It's a testament to the efficacy of player investment. And you know what? I'm going to keep investing until there's no more cool stuff, or the bragging rights don't matter, or my wife shoots me.
