In Response To: Re: On Bungie and the Value of the Player's Time (General Battuta) : I can see what you're saying, but I'm not sure it's the same thing. Teaming : up to do something hard is enjoyable, but the task you're tackling still : needs to be inherently rewarding; WoW provides a narrative and a social : structure for these challenges. Would teaming up to farm commendations, or : even to get assists in matchmaking, necessarily be as much fun as playing : with friends for fun? I don't know what to say. The last few weeks I've been in groups that formed for the sole purpose of helping each other with challenges and we had an absolute blast. If not for the assists & kills challenges I wouldn't have been in multiteam so much with Kermit & Co. If not for the campaign co-op challenge I would have been denied the chance to watch the covenant smoke bluerunner over and over and over again. Would we still be playing? Sure. But the challenge provided a context and a focus and I had fun. So there you go - I'm not saying it's perfect but I'm having fun. Real fun, too, not the illusion of fun. Or maybe I just like illusions?
