In Response To: Re: On Bungie and the Value of the Player's Time (Beckx) : I don't know what to say. The last few weeks I've been in groups that formed : for the sole purpose of helping each other with challenges and we had an : absolute blast. If not for the assists & kills challenges I wouldn't : have been in multiteam so much with Kermit & Co. If not for the : campaign co-op challenge I would have been denied the chance to watch the : covenant smoke bluerunner over and over and over again. Would we still be : playing? Sure. But the challenge provided a context and a focus and I had : fun. So there you go - I'm not saying it's perfect but I'm having fun. : Real fun, too, not the illusion of fun. Or maybe I just like illusions? I think you're ultimately on the same page as Cody because you're playing to game to have fun with friends, and the challenges just provide you with a goal to focus on and some space for shenanigans to occur. You might as well have said 'beat four rounds of Firefight' or 'complete the singleplayer campaign.' Taking his points about WoW into consideration, and your affinity for that game, I think Cody's point is that these player investment systems are not designed with the players best interests in mind, but that doesn't mean folks like you won't circumvent that and have fun anyway (which is awesome). tl;dr: You'd still be playing the game anyway cause you find it fun.
