That's just the point, though. Blizzard found a way to bring real story & compelling quests into an MMO environment that was devoid of both. Had their success not been exponentially greater than anyone ever expected, I don't think we'd be talking about these things the same way. Their model got attention because it turned out to be compelling; unfortunately that's when consultants and business guys tear about why it worked and want to cynically apply it to everything else. If I had a dollar for every consultant who's pitched me a "WoW makes millions, you should make an MMO".... So yeah, the takeaways that the business side has from WoW are bad news.
