: I dunno, I've always wanted to see this story explored more. Something I thought of recently was why the "Covenant remnant" wasn't a Prophet/Brute lead force that survived the end of Halo 3 and was still very much hostile with the Elites and Humanity. Hell, it's even implied in "The Return." As many problems as I had with Halo 3, I personally wouldn't have minded if we were still fighting that particular military structure (with Elites on our side again), rather than seemingly inexplicably finding Elites back at the helm of our troubles.
