I meant dumb as in not speaking. But I was accepting 343's idea that they had been intellectually neutered. And they would have come from a technologically unsophisticated culture. They would have been like fish out of water. I suppose that the benefit of using composed sentients is that they are adaptable and could adjust to their strange role. But how were they made suitable for the role? How much of the original person is left?
