And yet the development of Halo 1 and 2 were seat of the pants oh crap we're running out of time have been bought by microsoft lets do third person instead of rts nah how about first person on a brand new console with a controller etc. There are the stories of Banshees nearly not making it into the game because they ran into things (not a problem for getting into Halo 4 though, heh) and dialog being written without actually seeing it in the game's context, and other stuff that sounds like horrific development practices. The same thing is true of The Fall of Reach. Everyone seems to hold it up as the definitive version of Halo's timeline yet it was written in a huge crunch with limited information and limited vision of the story's future. So much there from the spinning sections in UNSC ships to the Elites not being encountered for thirty years even though they were the leading military species in the Covenant has been (in my opinion) rightly thrown out. If anything, the evidence tells us that Halo fans prefer their games and fiction to be half assed rush jobs because all the well funded games with big experienced teams are said to be worse than the earlier efforts.
