Honestly, if her plans require hijacking people's brains with genetically implanted personalities, maybe she isn't as good of a manipulator as she thinks she is. Self determination, I think, would be the most basic right for all species in the Haloverse. It's a right that the Covenant denied with their hegemony, and a right that the Forerunner apparently didn't put much stock in. I guess the Librarian liked the thought of being a savior, seeing as how the Spartan Program, MJOLNIR, and AIs are somehow all a product of her plan, rather than being, you know, the inevitable result of technological progress. And, ah, genetically modifying the Chief was the only way to stop the Didact, rather than putting a padlock on his Cryptum and chucking it into interstellar space. : Do you believe that you hold the solution to everybody else's problems? A more realistic scenario would be: "We're going to feed Africa!" "Not with those GMO crops you aren't!" "It's the only way to grow enough food!" "We don't know what could be wrong with it! It might be worse than nothing at all!" "We're going to feed them, and that's final!" "Over our dead bodies!" : Is the Didact being petty? If the mantle is all about helping people then : can't he just muck in and help all of us help each other? That would require letting go of the villain ball. : It was cool that the Chief didn't really want her modifications for : themselves. If they will help him fulfill his mission then OK otherwise : not interested. : But what about you? How many buttons in how many levels are you prepared to : press in order to gain the mantle? Will it motivate your game play? Nope. : The only motivation that I can see is a negative one. I wouldn't want Didact : destroying my race or telling everybody what to do. Gaining the mantle : would be a chore to perform in order to stop bad shit from happening. So, now the Mantle is the Catalyst?
