In Response To: Re: Something else I don't like about "Halo 2.0" (SonGoharotto) : I would have preferred that 343i dare to introduce something genuinely new : rather than playing it safe by recycling something familiar. I don't know. I agree to an extent I suppose. I don't think the Prometheans quite work. I think they lack character. Bungie used to talk up the enemies in Halo. How their movements and action and vocalizations all supported what they were thinking. And it worked. Think of all the different mental states an Elite, Jackal or Grunt displays. They can be confident, surprised, terrified. I don't understand the mental state of Knights, Watchers or Crawlers. Ever. It's like fighting moving metal statues. They have some neat tricks. They complement each other. I'd say that even their combat cycle basically works. But they aren't fun or interesting to fight. They're challenging enough, but you get no joy at outsmarting them. And that's just on a gameplay level. On a story level what are these composed Humans suffering, how am I hurting them further by killing them again? On the other hand, I hardly think it is fair to speak of 343i not daring to replace one of the best and most successful combat AI combinations ever dreamed up for a FPS. Especially on their first game when they were already under so much scrutiny to not screw everything up. Yes, Halo needs to find a way past fighting the Covenant, a way that is fun, but if duplicating Halo's unique blend of success without including one of its key ingredients was so easy someone would have done it sometime in the past decade.
