In Response To: Re: Mantle: do want? (Postmortem) : All species innately evolve to survive no matter the cost to others. Evolution by natural selection is about genetic survival. Period. Many times this survival is directly dependant upon other species. The foxes could eat all the rabbits and do very well for a season, but next season they'll go hungry and die. This is not as directly apply between two intelligent species from different planets since their ecosystem are different, and for both to survive they need never come into contact with one another. Evolutionary Biology has NOTHING to say about the ultimate purpose or destiny of mankind. And 'survival' absolutely does not entail the destruction or subjugation of other species - equally intelligent ones or not. You don't need a Mantle to tell you that cooperation is usually preferable to direct competition - we only need look within our OWN species for that.
