In Response To: I see it as... (thebruce0) : a sort of Prime Directive. But the Halo universe, to me, seems a little more : hostile. I don't know how much the FR "tampered" with natural : growth of life in the galaxy, but I got more of an impression that it was : the Forerunner way of protecting life from the hostile influences that : they've become aware exist perhaps from outside the galaxy, and as a sort : of reluctant mission with the fact that they are/were super-powerful if : not the most powerful, civilization in the galaxy. Would anyone else be : able to handle "the mantle" successfully? (presuming arrogantly : that they were able to, of course) : If the mantle was passed to them from the previous super-civilization, then : it could be something they felt would need to be passed down to what they : felt would be the next great civilization after they fell. Do we have something that other races don't have? Or are we just better at something that they also do to a lesser extent? Did this DNA manipulation make us morally better in some way? : tl;dr: I dunno. I don't see it simply as "cultivating", like
