In Response To: Mantle: do want? (scarab) I don't personally see the Mantle being much of a consideration in the story's future. I would probably care more for the Mantle as a set of ideals promoting peace and diversity if there was a possibility of that actually happening in the fiction, however it seems to me to be a rather naive principle in the Halo universe. The alien races are sort of hopelessly inept, sort of homogenised and defined solely by how much they hate each other and Humanity, and Humanity is gung-ho xenophobic with a knack for pointless colonization at everybody's expense. The most that I can see coming from the Mantle is justification for Human imperialism. I realise that this is hopelessly cynical but I don't think it's appropriate to get optimistic about anything at this time. | |
