In Response To: Re: Something else I don't like about "Halo 2.0" (Bry) : If you want an answer from a story telling perspective that might make some : sense, well, it could be possible that having been in a war of survival : for 30 years, the economy has become completely dominated and even : dependant by the military and it's requirements. : That economy can't simply switch back to a peaceful civilian orientated one : just like that. : Plus, the leaders are themselves military. Lord Hood is the closest thing to : a head of Government for the UNSC, and he is still Navy. He's going to : want new ships. : A peace dividend could spell disaster for the UNSC and the economy, hence : rearming and taking advantage of the hauls of new technology now at their : disposal, all while the Covenant is still fractured. Granted, military investment has made for all sorts of beneficial technological advances. But even then, we're not in a position to be kicking the hornet's nest, which is exactly what Kilo Five is doing behind Hood's back. (Speaking of whom, Hood strikes me as something of a moderate, so it's not like I'd necessarily worry about him being in a position of power.) : I'm not going to refer to a "Halo 1.0" and a "Halo 2.0"
: We don't know what any original intentions might have been. : We shouldn't really forget that Frankie with Bungie prior to Halo 2's release
I just can't shake the feeling that something has been lost. Some ephemeral quality, maybe held over from Bungie's early days of independence. (Like the difference between the Star Wars original trilogy and prequels. It's tough to nail down the exact reasons why, but everyone knows something went wrong.) It bugs me.
