That's just my point, though: that they can shake hands. That would have been unthinkable at any other time in the past 30 years. I don't really buy that either. It makes the Sangheili seem somewhat, hmm, gullible? (Maybe not the word I want.) Their society was already old and expansive before the Covenant was formed. Even with the reveal of the High Prophets's betrayal, most Sangheili are still going to stay true to their core beliefs. You don't just throw off millennia of religious hegemony and invite once hated enemies onto sacred ground.
