Is the Precursor meddling idea still canon? : One of the few things we don't know about the : Forerunner is what they did to the Precursor. The (a) Didact killed off : the last one, but it seems to be implied that there was more conflict : there. I can totally see OTHER Forerunner (ones not caught up in a marital : crisis) wanting redemption after Haloing the galaxy. The Didact seems to : want to be a jerk holding an old grudge over the whole thing though, and : his wife isn't much better. I'm not sure either of them are really : committed to protecting the entire galaxy anymore. They remind me of the Shadows and the Vorlon. Our unwanted pseudo-parents are playing out their disagreement over our fate. But it's not the same: D doesn't seem to be trying to make us stronger through chaos, he wants us dead or enslaved. Is there a Greek equivalent to D and L? Those Greek gods were always scrapping over us, and meddling. : I think they had it at some point. Despite all their flaws and the infighting : that eventually doomed everyone their culture did seem to be set up as a : sort of Mimbari servant culture. There was probably a time that they kept : the peace, provided aid, and knowledge, but generally stayed out of the : way and just helped the galaxy instead of lording over it. Their conflicts : with Humanity and the Flood seemed to have broken them more than any other : event. Seeing things slipping away... being powerless or not powerful : enough for the first time in forever. Maybe that's why they didn't deserve : the Mantle. They were the biggest, bestest, and most brilliant during : peace time but couldn't hold together during times of war. Still... do we : thing any of the Halo races could have done better? I don't think that they could. I am suspicious of the whole idea that one race should do that job. I'm more of a Mass Effect, get everybody to cooperate fan. The mantle is too patronizing for my taste. : Makes you disappointed in them, but then you remember that the Flood was : never a sure thing. If the Timeless one was telling the truth then the : Flood was some sort of revenge. Perhaps a revenge custom tailored to : defeat the Forerunner. Give them a problem that they had to deal with (a : threat to all life, we must do something! - say the self righteous : Forerunner) but one who's only solution required them to remove themselves : from the equation. Wasn't it a test or a punishment? A punishment for the Forerunners and a test for us? : ... : Well that isn't true either. The Forerunner might have muscled through it all : despite their problems if Mendicant Bias hadn't flipped out and sided with : the Flood. : Heh. Halo's story is still a lot of fun to ponder after all! I'm really : liking this thread. :) We have been quiet on the story speculation front. I think I was waiting for other people to start with the questions or points. I tend to be rather negative so I held off.
