In Response To: Re: Mothergoat's Second Opinion of Halo 2 (Ruum)
: My feelings on Halo 2 are pretty much summed up in this: In the first Halo,
: I'd sometimes go on top of Silent Cartographer and just look out to the
: sea or down into the ravines and structures. I never feel the compulsion
: to do that on Halo 2, the levels just seemed so much less... inspired. Not
: that I didn't love it, it just lost that mystical, alien-world exploration
: feel. I was prepared to lose that, in turn for a romp through a
: bombed-out, blasted battle for Earth's survival. But I didn't even get
: that, except on one level, which was great, but did leave a lot to be
: desired. Was I the only one who, upon getting on top of the space station
: on the first level, was SEVERELY disappointed when invisible walls pushed
: you back from going to certain areas? What happened to being able to skip
: half a level if you could find a way around? This non-linear, free-roaming
: experience has been almost completly eliminated. I would later find out
: that there is very little room to explore the levels of Halo 2, even in
: multiplayer, where there used to be the interesting quirks to exploit or
: explore.
: If I could talk to Bungie, I wouldn't even mention my faults with Halo 2. Not
: that I don't think they're relevant or anything like that, but because I
: feel like they did a great job. There's an incredible amount of pressure
: to follow up on a game like Halo, whose remarkable unremarkability made it
: an instant classic. There was nothing NEW about the original Halo,
: really... just, the level of detail and love and time put into it, being
: able to explore or go anywhere or do anything with the superb physics
: engine, made it so much more.
: I have gripes with the pistol being gone, but the new pistol is pretty cool,
: I guess, but what I really miss are the potent grenades. Sure, these
: grenades are fairly powerful, but their range is absolutely ridiculous.
: While I agree that their range was a little overpowered in the original,
: the drastic decrease in range has ruined their old effectiveness. I love
: dual-wielding, and I don't think it necessarily ruins single-wielding,
: except that with grenades weakened, there's really no incentive to using a
: single-wield weapon, unless it's a rocket launcher, shotgun, sword,
: etcetera. That and the hanging ending are my largest annoyances. An A+
: game, but a disappointing successor.
Bottom Line: i had WAY more fun playin Halo 1. Pistol and all, you guys who complain about just sucked at using it. Ive asked some of the best Halo 2 players and they agree Halo 1 was more fun. Im sorry Bungie, your goal was to make people have more fun than in Halo 1, from observing this and many other posts, you have failed.
And to all you douches who like all the new "strategy" Halo 2 adds, go play starcraft u nerds.
